While our studio might be new to the city, our concept is rooted in something much older and deeply personal, brought all the way from Denmark.
A “Glaze your own ceramic studio” in the heart of Amsterdam!
When I, Sofie, decided to move from Denmark to Amsterdam, I didn’t just bring my ceramic oven and paintbrushes.
I also brought along the core values of my Scandinavian roots - most importantly, our belief in quality and hygge.
In Danish, hygge means creating a space that’s warm, cozy, and full of simple pleasures.
That’s exactly what we offer - an escape from the fast-paced world where you can slow down, be still, and enjoy a shared experience with loved ones.
We hope you’ll leave feeling inspired, having created something personal and timeless, just like the Danish craftsmanship that influences our design.
It all started with a small family dream in Denmark!
Ceramics is personal to me, a reminder of home and family.
I originally started a ceramics studio back in Denmark with my mom, and we built it from the ground up back in 2020.
To our delight it was met with great support, leading us to expand with more stores around the country. Now, my mother Luise, leads a proud team of 6 stores both in Denmark and Sweden.
Watching ”Pensler og Perler” grow and seeing how my mother spreads joy in her local communities has been incredibly rewarding and inspiring.
Now, I’m thrilled to bring that same spirit to the creative community of Amsterdam.
The Beginning:
The first Pensler og Perler store opens in Charlottenlund, Denmark. Sofie and her mom, Luise, dive into the world of ceramics and, sparking a new creative adventure for the familiy
2020
New adventures:
Sofie heads off to university, leaving the reins with her mom, who grows Pensler og Perler with the same warmth and creativity. Sofie stays connected, sharing ideas and plans from afar.
2021
Expansion and Inspiration:
Pensler og Perler expands to Helsingør and Hillerød, Denmark.
Sofie meets Brice, her soon-to-be Dutch boyfriend. Together, they dream of starting a similar concept in the Netherlands, planting the first seeds for GlazeMade.
2022
Growth and Dreams:
New stores open in Næstved and Slagelse, Denmark. As Pensler og Perler continues to thrive, Sofie becomes even more inspired to bring this concept to Amsterdam someday.
2023
Across Borders:
The Pensler og Perler family grows even further with new locations in Roskilde, Denmark, and Helsingborg, Sweden—taking their creativity across borders.
ALSO: GlazeMade is Born
GlazeMade opens its doors in Amsterdam, bringing Sofie’s and Brice's vision to life. It’s more than just a store; it’s a new beginning inspired by her mom’s journey and the shared love for creativity, connection, and a little bit of magic.
